On October 19th and 20th the Michigan Campaign to End Homelessness held its 6th annual summit. There were over 300 representatives from state agencies, supportive housing agencies and continuum of care networks in attendance at The Kellogg Center on the campus of Michigan State University.
The theme for the two day summit was Year Six: Michigan Campaign to End Homelessness with an emphasis on “one individual, one family at a time.” This year's summit had two keynote speakers. Bill Hobson, executive director of the Downtown Emergency Service Center spoke on the topic of housing first and its effectiveness in ending homelessness for adults living with severe and persistent mental disorders and addictive illnesses. The second keynote speaker was Suzy Merchant, the Michigan State University Women's Basketball coach.
