As an alliance of agencies working toward a common goal of ending homelessness, we live in two worlds: The world of lives and the world of numbers. Each family housed, each job, each life turning a corner illuminates our work. At the same time, the numbers point the way to larger successes that we can celebrate and replicate. While we gage our successes and shortcomings with both yardsticks, statewide action depends on local, regional and statewide measurement. The solution to homelessness is a housing solution – innovative, affordable and integrated into communities.
Although many communities across the nation are working to end homelessness, Michigan is the only state that is addressing this issue on a statewide basis. Every community in our state has a 10-year plan to end homelessness. These plans are supported by an overarching state plan and more than 40 initiatives to assist our community partners.
Campaigns have goals and endings as ours does. Our unshakable goal, against which we will measure ourselves diligently, is to put an end to homelessness in Michigan by 2016.
We invite you to explore here with us, to learn, and to join us.
